EVOLVING TECHNOLOGY

JSI offers our BIM department’s capabilities to provide a more focused coordination of the building elements. Whether it is simply for shop drawings and layout for electrical, a partial model (electrical only) or a fully coordinated model effort among all trades. Working with the primary building model developed by the architect, our BIM department team utilizes software such as Revit, AutoCAD and Navisworks to virtually detail the electrical systems. If a full effort is called for, our team will coordinate with the mechanical, fire protection and related BIM teams to build a fully integrated model of the project. Interferences are identified and resolved in the model. Best methods for routing and placement are identified as well. The intention is to build the project virtually in order to identify pinch points that could impact the construction schedule and cost. The completed product is shared with the field for use in constructing the project more efficiently and with minimal lost effort.

The management team gains a better understanding of the project before moving on site and starting work. The accuracy and added coordination offered by using BIM has had a considerable positive impact on our client’s projects. BIM promotes better prefabrication planning and execution by our prefabrication department.

Our clients insist that their projects be constructed faster and more efficiently. We use offsite prefabrication and field installation to aid in dealing with those demands. Prefabrication has been around for a while, but its use has seen a more dramatic increase in the past few years. To meet our client’s expectations and promote cost and construction efficiency, JSI established our Prefabrication Department in 2015. We have constructed a modern prefabrication facility which allows us to fabricate in a controlled environment and assemble work of all types for our projects.

Typical prefabrication assemblies that we ship to our sites include:

  • Temporary power
  • Temporary lighting
  • Duct bank
  • In wall rough in
  • Power & lighting panels
  • Electrical room “power walls”
  • Overhead power distribution
  • Cable tray
  • Interior Lighting
  • Exterior Lighting
  • Trim kits
  • Phenolic labels & device plate engraving
  • UL certified UL 50 and UL 50E electrical enclosures

JSI has invested in the latest GPS and Robotic Total Station electronic survey instruments. Our field survey technicians are skilled in their use and apply the data generated by the BIM department for the layout of all key components of the electrical system. Items such as exterior lighting, underground, in wall and overhead rough in, electrical rooms, cable tray and interior lighting are just a few of the elements that can be identified. Utilization of GPS and robotic total station electronic survey instruments will boost productivity, limit mistakes and improve precision of the install..
